The Astrology of the Club of 27

This article was part of the front page for the ‘Club of 27’ webpage in 2005. It was the result of a presentation at the Astrological Lodge of London featuring the astrology of the 1960s and “Club of 27” members. The astrology charts of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain were discussed. Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011, was a later, tragic addition. The webpage must have inspired the editors of Wikipedia as they featured a ’27 Club’ page—sans astrology of course. Later that year, the Serbian astrology magazine Astrologus published the presentation. The editors then […]

Blood and Fire Through and Through

An Astrological Perspective on The Salvation Army The mere name “Salvation Army” evokes powerful images of aid in times of crisis, charity in times of need, mercy and transformation in the hours of one’s personal deepest, darkest hour. The Salvation Army’s role in social reform during the latter half of the 19th century cannot be underestimated. William Booth, the Salvation Army’s self styled General, who stood in a point of history when suffering was both overwhelming and unnecessary, saw the world in need of radical change. Like Petrarch some 400 years before him, Booth was adamant he would make a […]

The Sibley Chart

This article is part of my ongoing work exploring astrology, history, and culture. You can also find more of my research and insights in my Books. Together, these resources build a fuller picture of how astrology continues to shape our understanding of nations, events, and […]

Saturn in Capricorn: The Hard Reign

A beautiful school in Kolkata Saturn will soon be in Capricorn for the next couple of years and everyone’s talking out it. OK, the astrologers are talking about it. It’s big shift all right and usually some sort of symbolism makes its way to the front pages of the international newspapers when Saturn changes signs.  Remember “Je suis Charlie?” just as Saturn lurched back and forth over the cusp of Scorpio and Sagittarius at the end of 2014? Saturn in Sagittarius began with our need to speak our Truth and it will end with a lot of us wondering what […]

End of Season for Cherry Picking

Alex Trenoweth’s Lunar Phases Behavior Research This article explores my lunar phases behavior research, featured in OPA’s September 2017 edition of The Career Astrologer. Astrology research that engages skeptics is rare. Too often, astrologers are dismissed for lack of precision, non-replicable results, or small databases. In my adolescent behavior lunar phases research, I wanted to address these criticisms and show other astrologers how they can too. A first-hand account of this work appeared in the Autumn Equinox 2017 edition of The Career Astrologer, published by the Organization for Professional Astrology (OPA). It is republished here with permission so the article […]

Uranus in Taurus: Shift Happens With Collaboration

What’s all the fuss about Uranus moving into Taurus? Well, shift happens! Astrologers get terribly excited when one of the planets beyond the so-called “classics” are about to change signs. The reason for all the excitement is because the “outer” planets have considerably longer orbits, meaning they stay in zodiacal signs much longer than the others. Take Uranus for example. With an orbit of about 84 years, Uranus takes about 8 years to move through a given sign. For the past 8 years as Uranus transited through Aries, we’ve seen an exponential rise in self promotion, including “selfies”, self publishing, […]
