The Astrology of the Club of 27

This article was part of the front page for the ‘Club of 27’ webpage in 2005. It was the result of a presentation at the Astrological Lodge of London featuring the astrology of the 1960s and “Club of 27” members. The astrology charts of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain were discussed. Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011, was a later, tragic addition. The webpage must have inspired the editors of Wikipedia as they featured a ’27 Club’ page—sans astrology of course. Later that year, the Serbian astrology magazine Astrologus published the presentation. The editors then […]

Blood and Fire Through and Through

An Astrological Perspective on The Salvation Army The mere name “Salvation Army” evokes powerful images of aid in times of crisis, charity in times of need, mercy and transformation in the hours of one’s personal deepest, darkest hour. The Salvation Army’s role in social reform during the latter half of the 19th century cannot be underestimated. William Booth, the Salvation Army’s self styled General, who stood in a point of history when suffering was both overwhelming and unnecessary, saw the world in need of radical change. Like Petrarch some 400 years before him, Booth was adamant he would make a […]

Paul Newman: An astrological perspective

Originally published in The Astrological Association Journal, January/February 2009 Paul Newman was a hero of mine. I loved his rebellious, sometimes cranky nature, his smouldering good looks with the piercing blue eyes. I loved it that he drove fast cars well and that he was so satisfied with what he had that he could donate some of his wealth to worthy causes. He exuded contentment in life and within his marriage. He was a wonderful cook – so much so that his friends inspired him to market his own sauces and dressings. What else could we expect of someone with […]

Julia Child: The French Chef

As a child, I was fascinated with the French Chef, Julia Child. Although I should have been impressed with her knowledge, it was her voice that captivated me. Sounding as if her larynx was stuck in the middle of her throat, it took some time for me to realise she wasn’t sporting a French accent: she just utilised her accent differently to anyone else. When she was calm, her voice purred almost like a contented cat. When excited, she had the tendency to seize an unsuspecting syllable and throttle it. Her voice seemed to become most agitated when talking about […]

Siegfried and Roy: Masters of the Impossible

I’m very sad to hear the magician Siegfried Fischbacher died yesterday. I’m not a fan of keeping wild animals caged up to entertain humans but I always thought Siegfried and Roy loved their big cats and kept their animals well. I never got a chance to see any of their live shows but I loved watching you tube videos of their performances. Like everyone else, I was horrified when Montecore bit Roy and I kept tabs on Roy’s rather miraculous recovery. It was touching how Siegfried was such an integral part of Roy’s healing and it was profoundly moving how […]

Amy Winehouse: Falling into the Abyss

As with the the other Club of 27 members, it is hard to watch the past performances of Amy Winehouse. It is just too tragic such a vibrant star burnt herself out before she turned 30 years of age. This article explores her life on stage. Readers may wish to examine the chart of Janis Joplin who is also a member of the Club of 27. Amy Winehouse was born to a Jewish family in Southgate London on 14 September 1983 at 10:25 pm (Source: Frank Clifford quotes Winehouse’s mother to a mutual friend of astrologer Margaret Zelinski. RR: A). […]
